Berry Astrapak has achieved two great results at its JJ Precision plant in Maxmead and its Plastech plant in East London marking both 1000 and 1500 injury-free days respectively. We congratulate every single team member who contributed to this significant achievement.

Accidents are caused by humans, by what we do, how we design and plan things and most definitely by how we behave and act. There are a number of other contributing factors such as fatigue, a simple lack of focus and attitude. If accidents start with us, then overcoming and avoiding the probability of accidents does too!

With a high focus placed on hazard reporting and ongoing training happening behind the scenes, teams within the factories can assist in preventing accidents and incidents.

Berry Astrapak CEO, Robin Moore, joined the EXCO Team members to congratulate the teams: “This is a fantastic achievement that you should all be very proud of. The ultimate measure of health and safety commitment and performance is ‘accident free days’ and it does not happen ‘by accident ‘! It proves that it is not words or a poster on the wall but that every single person in the plant is committed and takes both their own and their colleagues’ safety very seriously. On behalf of the EXCO Team, we thank you and congratulate you all.”

We are the best agents to prevent incidents, near misses and sadly accidents. Being alert, knowing our environment well, understanding how we feel at times and also looking out for our colleagues begins to the form the basis to a safer workplace. It is the start of acknowledging that we are not on a private mission but that we are indeed part of a greater plan to ensure that everyone, after a long day’s work, goes home safely to their family and friends.

Look out for yourself and look out for your colleagues. Adopt a “he’s my Brother or Sister” attitude so that by caring for one another we look out for one another’s safety.
